Today, Evelyn and Dani discuss holistic medicine and the Compton Health Bar.
Dani Solorio, 33, is an herbalist and the founder of Compton
Health Bar, which is a health and wellness store in the city of
Compton, CA. Compton Health Bar's mission is to bring health to the
hood and reconnect us with our ancestral healing practices. Dani is
originally from Zacápu, Michoacán, Mexico, she arrived in the US at
the age of 6, and grew up in Lynwood, CA. She began her
entrepreneurial journey at a young age, primarily because as an
undocumented high school student, college was not an option.
By working in warehouses and restaurants, Dani saved enough money
to open her first business at the age of 21 – a tiny video store
inside the indoor swap meet in Compton, CA. Although Dani loved
movies, her true passion had always been natural medicine, which
led to the opening of her first health store in 2012. She has been
growing her herbal remedy practice and nourishing her community
ever since.
Zoe Saldana’s media company, BESE, made a mini-documentary about
Dani and her health mission. Jane Wurwand, founder of Dermalogica
and FOUND/LA, selected Dani and Compton Health Bar as recipients
for FOUND/LA’s California State University of Northridge’s Business
Honors Consulting Program. Dani has been a featured speaker on the
topics of entrepreneurship and holistic healing on podcasts, at
business events, at local schools/ institutions, and has been
featured multiple times on Telemundo's "Acceso Total." Dani
currently resides in Willowbrook, CA, with her wife, and consults
with clients in Compton as well as other parts of the country.
